What to Look for When Choosing an OEM Hardware Partner

What to Look for When Choosing an OEM Hardware Partner

Choosing an OEM hardware partner is a long-term commitment. The wrong supplier can mean inconsistent quality, missed deadlines, and ultimately—lost customers. Here’s the checklist we recommend before signing any agreement.

1. Factory Transparency
Ask for video factory tours or in-person visits. A reputable supplier welcomes audits (SGS, Intertek, BSCI) and can provide current certifications.

2. Realistic MOQ Flexibility
For designer brands and emerging labels, low-MOQ capability matters more than wholesale price. Ask: "What’s your true minimum, including tooling fees?"

3. Sample Turnaround
Serious suppliers commit to 7-15 day samples. Anything over 30 days suggests overloaded production or weak prototype workflow.

4. Quality Testing Standards
At minimum, your supplier should run salt-spray testing, nickel release testing (especially for European markets), and 100% inspection before shipping. Ask for written testing protocols.

5. Communication Cadence
Does your contact respond within 24 hours? Are they fluent in your business language? Communication breakdowns are the #1 cause of OEM project failures.

Evaluating OEM hardware partners?

We can share factory audit references (LVMH Tier-2), salt-spray / nickel-release test protocols, and a 7–10 day sample turnaround — ask us anything before you commit.
